  Final Destination or a Stopover: Attracting Immigrants to Saskatchewan
(Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy) This Briefing Note endeavours to explore some key issues relating to immigration in Saskatchewan that affect the province’s future economic and social development. The Briefing Note also provides helpful information on the historical patterns and current trends of immigration to the province, out-migration flows and the overall demographic situation in the province.
  Financial Security Requirements
(Labour Relations and Workplace Safety) All forms of financial security must be sent directly from a recognized financial institution except for surety bonds.
  FWRISA Guidelines for Defining Recruitment and Immigration Services
(Labour Relations and Workplace Safety) The guidelines are intended for use by recruiters, immigration consultants, immigration lawyers and others to help define and differentiate recruitment and immigration services regulated under the FWRISA, as well as employment and legal services that are not regulated by the FWRISA.

  FWRISA Licensed Immigration Consultants
(Labour Relations and Workplace Safety) The list identifies all the individuals who are authorized under The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act (Act) to provide immigration consulting services to foreign nationals coming to Saskatchewan. The list includes Licensees, individuals who have met all licensing requirements and posted $20,000 in financial security which can be used to compensate individuals who have incurred a financial loss as a result of a violation of the Act by a recruiter or immigration consultant.
  FWRISA Suspended Licenses
(Labour Relations and Workplace Safety) The list identifies all the individuals who have been suspended under The Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act (FWRISA) from providing immigration consulting and/or recruitment services. The list includes the names of the suspended licensees, business name, licence number, type of licence held, duration of the suspension, and the section of FWRISA that was breached. Individuals who were valid service providers when the FWRISA was introduced in October 2013 but who were refused a licence following an investigation and review are also listed.

  Immigrant Skilled Workers: Should Canada Attract More Foreign Students?
(Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy) This paper examines federal and provincial immigration policy and explores some important issues relating to the process of admission of immigrants to Canada. It also analyzes areas where changes are needed to maximize the benefits from immigration to the Canadian economy faced with the challenges of aging population and changing labour market conditions. The paper emphasizes that immigration policy must be focused not simply on bringing in more people, but people who are likely to adapt to the Canadian lifestyle, contribute economically, abide by laws in the country, and become self-supporting.

(Office of the Provincial Secretary) La cinquième réunion du Comité avait pour objectif de déterminer les possibilités ayant trait à l’immigration et à la migration interprovinciale, secteurs que les intervenants de la communauté francophone et les ministères gouvernementaux avaient reconnus comme une priorité, lors de notre consultation initiale à l’été 2009.

The objective of the fifth meeting of this committee was to identify opportunities pertaining to the immigration and inter-provincial migration sector, which was identified as a priority by both the Francophone community stakeholders and government ministries during our initial consultation in the summer of 2009.

  The Consequential Effects of Canadian Immigration Policy and Anti-Terror Legislation on Columbian Refugees
(Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy) This paper looks at the relationship between Canada, Colombia, and the United States, and specifically at how legislation has forced Canada into a submissive role that has undermined attempts at mediating peaceful resolutions in Colombia and discouraged the promotion of other forms of social justice that Canada has traditionally advocated.
